International Information Security expert, Mark Burnette, gives top tips from his talk about The Humanity Behind Cybersecurity Attacks
LBMC, one of the Southeast’s largest accounting and business consulting firms and a top 50 firm in the nation, proudly announces that Mark Burnette, LBMC practice leader of risk services, was featured as a speaker at the 2019 TEDx event in Nashville presenting The Humanity Behind Cybersecurity Attacks.
A recognized IT security expert by technology think-tank Gartner, Inc., Burnette spoke on cybersecurity awareness and identified three characteristics of humans that lead to breakdowns in cybersecurity: human curiosity, the trusting and helpful nature of most people, and unfamiliarity with cybersecurity risks. Burnette points out that most successful cyber-attacks take place when a human makes a mistake, not the computer.

In 2018 he spoke at nine major conferences on various topics such as blockchain, cybersecurity issues in healthcare, and his popular talk “Dear President Trump: How to Secure the United States.”
Burnette has been featured as a cybersecurity subject matter expert on ABC and CBS television affiliates and in print media such as Secure Enterprise, Information Security and ComputerWorld magazine.
“I was honored to be among this amazing and creative group of thought leaders, and I had a great coach, Rob Ivy, LEE Company Chief Financial Officer and TEDx Nashville Speaker Coach/Board Member, who helped guide me to effectively connect with the TED audience,” Burnette said. “The most rewarding part of something like this is hearing from an attendee that my talk resulted in him taking immediate action to change his passwords right after the presentation. Raising awareness of cybersecurity issues and motivating attendees to act was my goal.”
